In today's fast-paced modern society, more and more people yearn for undisturbed warmth and silent understanding amidst the clamor. The birth of “Normon” stems from a profound insight into and commitment to this “silent companionship.”
In 2020, during an overseas exchange, co-founder Ms. Zhong encountered an elderly person living alone. With their children away year-round, the only “confidant” in the home was a handmade fabric doll. This scene deeply moved Ms. Zhong—when emotional needs go unmet, a steady, pure companionship might become a glimmer of light healing loneliness. Yet she also observed that existing companionship products either featured crude craftsmanship lacking texture or cold designs devoid of empathy. More troubling for users was the weight of traditional silicone dolls—often 40 to 60 kilograms—requiring strenuous lifting for transport and time-consuming adjustments to posture, turning “companionship” into a burden.
“Why couldn't we create a companion product that combined exquisite craftsmanship, emotional resonance, and effortless ownership?” Driven by this question, Ms. Zhong assembled a startup team of sculptors, materials engineers, and psychology researchers. She herself remained deeply immersed in frontline R&D, personally overseeing every step from formula testing to sample approval, leaving no detail unchecked. For the first two years, the team practically lived in laboratories and studios, tackling three core challenges: material safety, aesthetic vitality, and the user's top concern—lightweight design.
To achieve the goal of an “ultra-lightweight body,” the team broke through the limitations of traditional silicone materials. Collaborating with university materials laboratories, they developed a novel composite silicone material. This innovation maintained medical-grade safety standards and a skin-like texture while reducing material density through molecular restructuring. Simultaneously, high-strength fiber layers were incorporated to ensure limb support. Throughout development, Ms. Zhong monitored the production line daily, meticulously recording weight and load-bearing data for each batch of samples: When one batch failed joint load-bearing tests after weight reduction, she immediately ordered all inventory scrapped. To strike the balance between “lightness” and “texture,” the team tested 57 material ratios, ultimately controlling the doll's total weight between 18–35 kilograms—over 40% lighter than traditional products. When the first lightweight samples were completed, Ms. Zhong personally directed lifting and posture adjustments to confirm even female users could effortlessly hold them before approving the next testing phase.
For skin texture, Normon adheres to a “1:1 direct replication of human skin” standard. The team recruited volunteers of diverse ages and skin types, using 3D laser scanning to capture real skin textures, pores, and even minute capillary distributions. This data was then integrated into sculpting models. From the delicate lines on the forehead to the intricate fingerprints on the fingertips, every inch of skin underwent repeated comparisons and adjustments. Ms. Zhong personally oversaw the replication process throughout. After each sample print, she would touch the skin surface with her fingertips to gauge the texture's authenticity. Any deviation from the original data prompted her to request a rescan and remake. On one occasion, to recreate the natural creases at the elbow, the team revised the model 16 times. Only when Ms. Zhong confirmed that “touching it evokes the soft, wrinkled sensation of real skin” was the final version approved.Upon receiving feedback about skincare needs, Ms. Zhong immediately spearheaded the development of a bespoke skincare set and incorporated her own compiled “skincare essentials” into the accompanying guide.
Now, three years into its journey, Normon's ultra-lightweight series has reached over 20 countries and regions worldwide. Yet the brand remains true to its founding vision: in this era of growing disconnection, to craft a “light yet warm, authentic and reassuring” guardian for everyone seeking companionship through uncompromising craftsmanship. As Chen Mo stated at the brand's anniversary celebration: “We aim not only to be vessels for emotions but to ensure this companionship remains unburdened. Every reduction in weight, every skin-replication innovation, is designed to help users embrace warmth more effortlessly. Moving forward, ‘Yueban’ will continue advancing on the path of lightweight design and authentic texture, allowing more people to experience how truly good companionship should feel—effortlessly natural.”
In terms of appearance design, “Normon” also rejects “industrial replication.” Ms. Zhong invited a renowned domestic sculptor to lead the design process. From facial expressions to body curves, the core principle was “restoring authentic emotional expression.” Every design draft for each product required his personal review. For instance, the eye design of the first lightweight product, “Whisper,” underwent 23 iterations just for the length and curvature of the eyelashes. The goal wasn't “perfect refinement,” but rather to convey “serene gentleness” in the eyes when users gazed at them. The doll's sitting and lying positions were also made easily adjustable for more comfortable companionship.
In 2023, Normon's first ultra-light silicone doll, “Cara,” officially launched.
Throughout the brand's evolution, Normon has remained steadfastly “user-centric.” Ms. Zhong continues her hands-on approach: hosting monthly user feedback sessions where she personally records suggestions on weight and skin texture; participating in critical decisions from material selection to prototype testing during new product development. When users requested more flexible joints, the team optimized the joint structure while maintaining lightweight construction.
